Hi @TellyTech
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That sounds frustrating—having to fully restart every time you close the lid isn’t ideal. Here are some things to check:
1. Adjust Lid Close Settings
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what closing the lid does.
- Set "When I close the lid" to Sleep or Do nothing, instead of Hibernate or Shut Down.
2. Check Display Settings
- Right-click the desktop → Display Settings → Make sure the screen is set to Extend or Duplicate rather than "Second screen only."
- If an external monitor is connected, unplug it and see if the issue still occurs.
3. Update Graphics Drivers
- Open Device Manager → Expand Display Adapters.
- Right-click your Intel or AMD/NVIDIA GPU → Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
4. Disable Fast Startup
- Open Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable → Uncheck Fast Startup → Save changes.
5. Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Power or Display and follow the steps.
6. Check HP BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Look for Power Management or Lid Switch Behavior and see if any settings could be adjusted.
7. Test Sleep Mode Manually
- Instead of closing the lid, press Win + X → Shut down or sign out → Sleep.
- Then wake the laptop and check if the video comes back. If it does, lid-closing detection might be the issue.
Try these out, and let me know what makes an impact! If the issue persists, BIOS updates or system firmware settings may be worth investigating further.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
