hi, helping a friend, the laptop screen flickers and has video lines. Works fine using the HDMI to another monitor. Before I take it apart, I am wondering if there is something else i could do. Drivers updated. It is a DV7T-2000 Pavilion. I am posting 2 pictures, apparently videos have to be online. I think you get the jist. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks Bruce

Hi @brucefl,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your friend’s HP Pavilion DV7T-2000 might be experiencing a hardware issue with the screen or its connection. Since it works fine with an external monitor via HDMI, the problem is likely with the laptop’s display or its internal connections. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before taking it apart.
- Check Display Cable Connection: Sometimes the internal display cable can become loose or damaged. If you're comfortable opening the laptop, you can check and reseat the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.
- Test in Safe Mode: Boot the laptop in Safe Mode to see if the flickering persists. Safe Mode uses a basic video driver, which can help determine if the issue is related to the graphics driver.
- Update or Roll Back Display Drivers: Since you’ve already updated the drivers, you might want to try rolling back to a previous version if available. Sometimes new drivers can introduce compatibility issues.
- Check for Physical Damage: Look for any visible damage on the screen or the bezel. Physical damage can sometimes cause display issues.
- External Monitor Test: Since the external monitor works fine, try using it for an extended period to confirm that the issue is with the laptop’s display rather than a deeper hardware problem.
- BIOS Update: Check if there is a BIOS update available for the DV7T-2000. Sometimes BIOS updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
