I connect the laptop to my Samsung TV with an HDMI cable and use various USB sticks that contain downloaded torrent files. The programmes are viewed using either Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player but the programmes are often interrupted and have to be restarted from the beginning. The laptop is just a couple of weeks old and is only used for the aforementioned purpose. I have for years used my Asus ROG laptop to perform the same task using the same setup with no problem. TIA.

Can you plug USB sicks DIRECTLY your USB port on your TV ? The specs of your machine is

I can plug USB sticks into my Samsung TV but it doesn't recognize some of the Torrent files and often won't show the subtitles (srt). My laptop only has 4 gig ram could that be the problem? It will show the USB files to the end but stops from time to time. I transferred a couple to the laptop hard drive and they seemed to work okay.

Can you play those files on laptop itself (w/o the TV) ? From the its specs, your machine has 8GB of RAM.
Regards.

To answer your enquiry : as the USB stick plays it is displayed both on the TV and the laptop itself when I get the problem, I will try to watch only on the laptop and see what happens. Since I last posted I have tried some older USB sticks that have played without interruptions on the TV so I am beginning to suspect that the two 16 gig sticks I had trouble with might be defective. I will investigate further in the next couple of days. BTW my model has only 4 gig of ram as described on the box it came in and confirmed by Belarc Advisor. Thank you for your attention to my dilemma.
