Pavilion 15z-ab100
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I Jave a new Pavilion 15z that came with Windows 10. I installed a new Windows 8.1 pro for software I use that is not supported under Windows 10.

HP driver search does not give me an option for 8.1; only 10. I need a driver for the touchpad. I do not see the touchpad per se in Device Manager. How do I find the touchpad manufacturer or a 8.1 driver so I can utilize the touchpad's maximum functionality? For example, 2 finger scroll, pinch zoom, etc.

Thanks.

Hi:

The W10 Synaptics touchpad driver is good for W7, W8, W8.1 and W10.

This package provides the driver that enables the Synaptics TouchPad in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The driver enables general touchpad functionality (for example double-tap and scroll) and provides a user interface.

File name: sp72097.exe

I don't know about the other one listed.

So if your notebook has the Synaptics touchpad model then use the driver I posted above.

If it has the Elan touchpad you can try the W10 driver and see if it works.  I explored the driver folder and there is no info other than it has drivers for both 32 and 64 bit operating systems.

Thanks.

How do I identify the Touchpad manufaturer (Elan or Synatics)? I don't see the the touchpad in Device Manager and a web search did not return any answers. Windows is not my native language :manwink:

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know.

Most HP notebooks come with the Synaptics touchpad hardware and that is the 1st time I ever saw that other brand touchpad driver listed on a support page.

I would just try the Synaptics driver and if it doesn't work, uninstall it, reboot and try the other one.

Sometimes you just have to experiment when you install an unsupported operating system.

Hi, Download link for sp72097.exe is not working, can you please share a working link?

Hi:

The download link no longer exists.

Use sp81891 from the support page instead.  That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Thanks Paul, I already tried that but to no avail..I forgot to mention that I have upgraded to Windows10, hence the issue.

You're very welcome.

Did you try the driver directly from Synaptics?  I think yours is the smbus driver.
