I have noticed the colours on my laptop's screen appear lightened or washed out, often when I am running larger programs or games, and often when it is not plugged in. Is this normal or something to be concerned about?

@mionion75, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Turn Off Battery Saving Mode

Your laptop might be dimming the screen to save power when it's not plugged in.

Check Graphics Settings

Your laptop might be switching between a low-power integrated GPU and a high-performance dedicated GPU (like NVIDIA or AMD), which can affect color.

Turn Off Adaptive Brightness & Night Light

Go to Settings > System > Display, then turn off Night Light.

Turn off Adaptive Brightness in the advanced display settings.

Test with an External Monitor

Plug your laptop into another monitor or TV to see if the issue is with the screen itself.

If the colors are fine on the external monitor, it might be a hardware issue with your laptop's screen.

Update Graphics Drivers

Go to Device Manager > Display adapters > Right-click on your GPU and select Update driver.

Hi,   'Saw a few posts re washed out colours/insufficient contrast on a number of HP laptops.   Although the display screen on my new $3000 Elitebook is not as good as my old HP laptop (are you listening HP), there are a number of tweaks you can make so that the display is bearable. This feature may not be available on all HP laptops.

One of these is Settings-Accessibility-Color filters.   Click Color settings to 'on', and select the top option (Red-Green, green weak).  Then scroll down to Intensity and Color Boost and pump them way up.

Again, not as good as my previous HP (ahem, cough)
