Welcome to the HP English Community --
Fingerprint reader is an OPTIONAL purchase feature.
If your computer does not have an actual fingerprint sensor installed, the little "box" in the keyboard area is simply a cover plate showing where the fingerprint reader would have been located.

Check the Device Manager -
Fingerprint reader requires that there is a "Biometrics" section
No Biometric Devices category = No fingerprint reader
Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager
Tab View
Check Show hidden devices
Select Devices by Type
Expand Category (for example Biometric Devices)
Right-Click on the Driver > Select / open Properties
