HP Pavilion x360 - 13-a110dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

We have a laptop HP Pavillion x360 and the webcam is not working. We thought that it was damaged, as some time ago we had to replace the screen, even though we checked the the camera in device manager, and said it was working properly. It is an HP Truevision HD. We decided to buy an external camera, but it still does not work, and the problem is not the camera because it works well on another computer. We downloaded the Cyberlink Youcam 5.0 and 6.0 software at the HP website and when it is launched, a note indicates that Youcam can not connect to the camera. We have disabled each of them and tried separately and the same message displays.

When opening the Camera App in Windows, with the HP Truevision HD or the external camera also does not work. With the HP Truevision HD, does not show video, just a black screen but the light of the camera turns on fixed. When we switch to the external camera, when opening the Camera App in Windows, a message shows saying there is a problem with the camera please contact the manufacturer. But, the camera works well in another laptop, so it is not the problem. We do not know what else to do or check. Will appreciate any help on what to do.

Regards,

Nilda

@Nilda20 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that webcam is not working.

I have a few steps that should help resolve this concern.

Here's a related post that seems to have helped others: Click here

(Though the header may be different, the solution should work for your concern as well).

For troubleshooting the webcam issues:

You can open webcam software, such as You-Cam, Skype, or Live Messenger, but the video does not display in the main viewing window. Use the following steps, in the order, they are presented, until the webcam video displays in your webcam software:

Step 1: Make sure the webcam is the selected video/capture device for your webcam software

Your webcam must be selected as the video capture device in your webcam software. If the computer has multiple video input sources, your webcam software might be connected to something other than your webcam.

To select the webcam as your video source, open your webcam software and look for the video camera, video source, or video caption in the software's properties or preferences. Here are some common examples of selecting the webcam as the video source:

NOTE:

The name of your webcam might display as USB Video Device, HP Webcam, USB 2.0 Camera, HP Pavilion Webcam, or similar. If you do not know the name, select a name to see if video displays. If not, try selecting other video device names until you see the video from your webcam display in the window.

Hello Praveen196,

Thanks for your response. I tried to install the webcam driver through the HP Recovery Manager, but I do not know which of the drivers listed is the webcam driver. I did not see any driver for a webcam. I did install the Graphics driver in case was the problem but the webcam still does not work. The webcam is HP Truevision HD and I did not see any driver for it.

I did see webcam software Cyberlink YouCam, which I already have.

I uninstalled HP Truevision HD in the device manager, reinstalled it, and restarted the computer and the problem persists.  This camera still does not work in the Windows Camera App nor Cyberlink YouCam, neither the external camera I bought. I did select each camera in the Cyberlink YouCam and the message was that the software could not connect to the camera.

Please tell me what else I could do, or tell me which is the name of the driver I have to install.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards,

Nilda20

I understand your concerns.

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

  1. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

  1. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  2. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  3. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Have a nice day!!
