Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A4AV)

Hello everyone!

My webcam stopped working on my laptop. Everytime I try and turn it on, whether in a program or just in the settings menu, it just shows a black or gray screen and the camera light blinks once. Can someone help? The computer sees the camera and I only have 1 built in (no other camera devices at all) and the sfc /scannow didnt show any corrupted files either. My drivers are fully updated, as is my Windows.

update:  when I try to choose it in the settings it boots me out of the camera's page immediately

Hi @MetalSlug333,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out. Based on your description of the issue with your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (Product No: 820G4EA) — where the webcam shows a black/grey screen, blinks once, and then the Camera settings crash or boot you out — here’s how you can troubleshoot it:

1. Check the Camera Privacy Shutter

Many HP laptops have a physical privacy shutter or a keyboard shortcut that disables the camera. Try:

  • Looking for a physical slider near the top bezel of the screen.
  • Pressing Fn + F9 (or look for a key with a camera icon and press that with Fn).

2. Confirm Webcam Is Detected

  • Open Device Manager → Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
  • You should see something like the HP Wide Vision HD Camera.
    • If it's not there, click View > Show hidden devices.
    • If it shows with a yellow triangle ️, right-click and choose Uninstall, then reboot.

3. Reset Camera App Permissions

  • Go to: Settings > Privacy & security > Camera
  • Make sure Camera access is ON.
  • Ensure apps like Camera, Zoom, or Teams are allowed to use the camera.
  • Then go to: Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Camera > Advanced Options
    • Click Reset.

4. Try the Camera in Another App

Use a different app like:

  • Webcamoid or Skype.

5. Reinstall the Webcam Driver

  • Open Device Manager > Cameras > HP Wide Vision HD Camera.
  • Right-click > Uninstall device (check box for “Delete driver software” if available).
  • Reboot the PC. Windows will reinstall the default driver.

If not, you can install the original driver from: Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa0359ng (820G4EA) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
