Hi @JLR79,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the built-in HP TrueVision HD camera on your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-fc0000 (733M2AV) is being blocked, potentially due to privacy settings, driver issues, or permissions. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve the issue:
1. Check Privacy Settings
Make sure the camera is enabled for apps and services:
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Privacy & security > Camera.
- Make sure Camera access is turned On.
- Scroll down to Let apps access your camera and ensure the apps you need (e.g., Zoom, Skype, etc.) have camera access.
- Scroll further down and check Desktop apps permissions as well.
2. Disable Camera Privacy Shutter or Function Keys
Some HP laptops have a physical camera shutter or a keyboard function key to disable/enable the camera (usually F8 or F10). Verify if your device has this feature, and ensure it's not accidentally blocking the camera.
3. Check Device Manager for Camera Issues
Verify that the camera is not disabled or malfunctioning in Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
- Right-click on HP TrueVision HD Camera and select Enable device (if it is disabled).
- If enabled, right-click and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
If the camera still doesn't work, try uninstalling the camera driver:
- Right-click on HP TrueVision HD Camera > Uninstall device > Restart the computer. Windows should reinstall the camera driver automatically.
4. Check for Windows Updates
Ensure Windows is fully updated:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any pending updates.
5. Reinstall the HP Camera Driver
If the issue persists, try reinstalling the driver from HP's website:
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Download and install the latest camera driver under the Driver-Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices section.
- Restart the laptop after installation.
6. Run Camera Troubleshooter
Run the built-in troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Scroll down to Camera and run the troubleshooter.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
7. Check Antivirus/Firewall Blocking Camera
Sometimes, antivirus software or firewall settings can block camera access. Ensure your antivirus software isn't blocking the camera by checking its privacy settings or temporarily disabling it.
8. Test with Different Apps
Test the webcam with multiple apps like Camera (pre-installed in Windows), Zoom, Skype, etc., to see if it works with any specific app.
9. BIOS Settings
If none of the above steps work, check the BIOS to see if the camera is disabled at the hardware level:
- Restart the laptop and press Esc or F10 (depending on the model) to enter the BIOS.
- Navigate to Security or Advanced settings, and look for the Integrated Camera option.
- Ensure it is enabled.
- Save and exit the BIOS.
