Wireless keyboard K4000 hp
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm having some weird issues with my wireless HP keyboard (K4000 I think) It used to work just fine, but now it's all funky. Currently using a loaned usb-keyboard to type this as my Hp laptops keyboard doesnt work either (except for the touch pad), being the reason I'm using wireless in the first place.

So the top of the keyboard (Numbers and keys above the numbers)  doesn't work My Computer for some reason keeps locking the upper keyboard for unknown reasons. Normally, stuff like FN+ num lock could temporarily make it work again. But now it doesnt work at all. I've tried other FN + other key combinations, but no succes. Changed the batteries today, but low power was probably not the problem as it didn't have an effect. I made the dumb mistake of thinking disconnecting the wireless keyboard could help, but since numbers on keyboard doesn't work, i cant reconnect it now, unless I figure out how to fix the numbers. I've checked the keys, nothings stuck under them.

I can't keep using the loaned keyboard as it's my dads, I also had to take my headphones usb out to connect the keyboard, which is also a problem as my computer doesnt have enough usb-holes for headphones, drawing pad and a usb keyboard.

Any chance this is fixable or should I give up and see if buying a new wireless keyboard (or saving up for a new computer ) is the solution?

Hi @cherryblossoms1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP K4000 wireless keyboard. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the problem.

Check for Interference: Ensure there are no devices nearby that might be causing wireless interference. This includes other wireless devices, microwaves, or anything that operates on a similar frequency.

Re-pair the Keyboard:

  • Turn off the keyboard and remove the batteries.
  • Re-insert the batteries and turn the keyboard back on.
  • Follow the pairing instructions for the keyboard. Typically, this involves pressing a connect button on the keyboard and the wireless receiver.
  • If your receiver has a connect button, press it first, then press the connect button on the keyboard.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your wireless keyboard. Go to the HP support website and search for the latest drivers for your specific keyboard model.
  • Also, update your USB drivers and make sure your operating system is fully updated.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Go to your keyboard settings in the Control Panel or Settings app. Ensure that any settings related to the function keys or num lock are configured correctly.
  • Sometimes, there might be software provided by HP for managing the keyboard. Check if such software is installed and see if any settings need adjustment.

Test on Another Device:

  • If possible, test the wireless keyboard on another computer. This can help determine if the issue is with the keyboard itself or with your laptop.

Clean the Keyboard:

  • Gently clean the keyboard to ensure that no debris is causing issues. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust and debris that might be lodged under the keys.

Check USB Ports:

  • Since your laptop's keyboard isn't working either, it's worth checking if there might be an issue with the USB ports. Try using different ports for the wireless receiver.
  • Consider using a USB hub if you don't have enough USB ports, but ensure the hub is powered to avoid power issues with connected devices.

Reset the Keyboard:

  • Some wireless keyboards have a reset button or a specific reset procedure (e.g., holding certain keys while inserting batteries). Check the user manual for your keyboard model for any reset instructions.

On-Screen Keyboard:

  • Temporarily, you can use the on-screen keyboard available in Windows. This can be accessed through the Ease of Access settings or by searching "on-screen keyboard" in the Start menu.

If your laptop's built-in keyboard is also having issues, it could indicate a larger problem with the laptop itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,  this keyboard doesnt have a USB connection, its just bluetooth (no receiver), Other connected things in usb are connected through wire and not bluetooth (they work just fine, drawing tablet and headphones.) My dad is going to check if the keyboard also has problems with another device or if my computer is the problem. I do suspect that there might be a laptop - related issue considering the in built  one stopped working.  Hopefully theres computer repair options near me who might be able to take a look at the laptop itself. But right now I'm going to wait regarding the keyboard and see if connecting it to another computer causes issues. Have a nice day.
