@Fezokuhle, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Auto-scrolling can be a frustrating experience, and it can occur due to several reasons. Here are some common causes and solutions:

1. Trackpad or Mouse Issues

  • Dirty Trackpad: Ensure your trackpad is clean; dirt or moisture can cause unintended inputs.
  • Faulty Mouse: If you use an external mouse, try disconnecting it to see if the issue persists. Sometimes a stuck or faulty scroll wheel can cause auto-scrolling.

2. Driver Issues

  • Update Drivers: Check if your touchpad or mouse drivers are out of date. Go to Device Manager, find your mouse and touchpad, and update the drivers.
  • Roll Back Drivers: If the issue began after a recent update, rolling back the driver might resolve the problem. In Device Manager, right-click the device and select Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver.

3. Operating System Settings

  • Touchpad Sensitivity: A setting might be set too sensitive. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad, and adjust the sensitivity settings.
  • Disable Gestures: If your touchpad supports gestures, disabling specific gestures might help.

4. Investigate Hardware Issues

  • Stuck Keys: Ensure that no keys associated with scrolling (arrow keys, Page Down, etc.) are stuck.
  • Physical Damage: If the touchpad has physical damage, it may cause misbehavior.

5. Software Conflicts

  • Background Apps: Sometimes, running apps can interfere. Check if any app might be causing the issue by closing apps one by one.
  • Virus/Malware: Perform a full system scan with your antivirus to ensure no malware is causing the erratic behavior.

6. Check for Windows Updates

An update might contain a fix for the behavior. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
