I want to use an external hd tv as an additional monitor but cannot find the maximum resolution that my laptop will support via HDMI port.
Can anyone please advise me?
Cheers

I have not seen what you have seen. Please cite a reference.
But, see: http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02770249.pdf
which states: High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) version 1.4 supporting up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
in that document.
But, there seem to be 5 distinct configurations, with different graphics adapters, of your model of computer. So, caveat emptor.

Your computer: https://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c04548081
Video Graphics - Intel HD Graphics 5500
Display - 39.6 cm (15.6") diagonal HD BrightView WLED-backlit (1366 x 768)
So, not "Full HD" (1920 x 1080) for the internal graphics adapter, which drives the computer's external HDMI-output port.

Thanks for the input.
I have seen other information that suggests the card can / does support higher resolution via HDMI than used for the integral screen. If that is not true, I will not bother to connect another screen.
Any more information would be welcome.
