What is  the very little RED light at the top left of the touch control for?

Tiny red light is likely an indicator to show whether the Touchpad is active or disabled for the session.

Toggle ON / OFF switch for the Touchpad:

Try a FIRM double-tap in the upper left corner of the Touchpad On ... double tap... Off

Find and Open either your User Guide (or possibly the Service Guide for more information for the Touchpad in your computer.
