Hello,

Suddenly, my HP laptop screen shows a white border on all four sides. I haven’t made any changes or updates that could have caused this.

Model: HP Envy x360 Convertible 13-ay1074ng

OS: Windows 11 Home

Please advise on how to fix this issue.

Hi @Felix5711,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When the white border first appeared (e.g., after startup, during use, or after waking from sleep).
  • Whether the border shows up in all applications or only in certain programs.
  • If you have connected the laptop to an external monitor, does the issue appear there as well?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Display Settings
    • Go to Settings > System > Display and check the resolution.
    • Ensure it is set to the recommended resolution for your model (usually 1920x1080 or higher).
  2. Graphics Driver Update
    • Open HP Support Assistant or Device Manager and update your graphics driver.
    • Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes cause display anomalies.
  3. Scaling and Layout
    • In Display Settings, check the scaling percentage.
  4. BIOS and Firmware Update
    • Visit HP’s official support website for your model and check for BIOS or firmware updates.
    • These updates can resolve compatibility issues with the display.
  5. Hardware Diagnostics
  • Restart the laptop and press F2 to run HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the display test to confirm if the issue is hardware-related.

If the white border persists after these steps, it may indicate a hardware issue with the display panel .

I hope this helps.

The white border first appeared a few hours after I had TPM-related issues during startup (BitLocker/TPM prompt). It did not appear immediately after startup but later during normal use.

Whether the border shows up in all applications or only in certain programs:

The white border is visible across the system, not limited to a specific application.

Hi @Felix5711,

Thanks for your response.

Since the white border is visible system-wide and not limited to any specific application, this behavior does not appear to be software- or application-specific.

Given these observations, the issue is most likely related to the system hardware, such as the display panel or internal graphics components. In situations like this, troubleshooting through software changes typically does not resolve the problem.

Thanks for sharing this solution. I had a similar display issue and your steps helped clarify where the problem was coming from. I didn’t realize the driver version could cause this behavior, so updating it makes a lot of sense. I’ll try these steps and see how it works on my system.
