Have purchased a HP laptop 14s-dq0034na about 6 months ago. Now it simply has a flashing white screen on start up and keeps looping. I can see the hard drive light turn on and off. That's it. Dead after less than 6 months. Great. Will this need to be sent in for warranty/replacement? Any help appreciated.

Hi @jasikasisback

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds frustrating, especially since the laptop is fairly new. A flashing white screen on startup could indicate a display issue, corrupted boot files, or a hardware failure.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and try turning it on.

2. Check for Display Issues

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • If the external display works fine, the issue is likely with the laptop’s screen or internal connections.

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly.
  • Select F2 > System Tests > Display Test to check for hardware issues.

4. Boot into Safe Mode

  • Restart the laptop and press Shift + Restart at the login screen.
  • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Choose Enable Safe Mode and check if the issue persists.

I pressed the Caps Lock button to test if it would work and it booted up. I am wondering what the reason was for the white screen in the first place though..

Hey @jasikasisback,

Glad it's working now! The white screen could’ve been a glitch or a software issue. Sometimes pressing random keys like Caps Lock can help reset things. But for now, all good!

More likely a faulty motherboard that will die just when the warranty expires.......guaranteed....
