HP Notebook - 15-ac132nia
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I wanted to update my graphics driver. I searched for updates on the HP Support Assistant, It didn't find any update for the graphics driver. I tried scanning with IDSA(Intel Driver Support Assistant). Looks like it has found an update for the graphics driver, But it shows this message:

"A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver & Support Assistant is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact Hewlett-Packard (HP) for the latest driver for your computer. "

I have "Intel HD Graphics 5500" on my Laptop.

So what should I do? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

Here is how you can manually update the Intel graphics driver to the latest version from Intel...

First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027538/windows-create-a-system-restore-point

Next, download and save the latest Intel HD graphics driver ZIP file for the HD 5500 graphics adapter your notebook has.

This is the latest driver as of 15.40.45.5126 (Latest)   Date: 3/25/2020

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29474/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?product=862...

Unzip the graphics driver file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

To unzip the file, right click on the graphics driver zip file you downloaded, and select Extract All.

Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category

Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click on Have Disk, and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>igdlh64 (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.

Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.

When the installation is finished, restart the PC.

To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.

Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there.   Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.

Then restart the PC.

First of all thank you, Sir, for your quick response.

As you can see the message in IDSA says:

" Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues"

So what would you recommend to me? Will it really cause any issue? Are there any issues reported due to doing so? Or is it usually safe?

You're very welcome.

I have two notebooks (HP 350 G1)...one that uses the same driver as I gave to you...I have been using the latest Intel driver for years and never had an issue.

As a matter of fact, I hadn't seen that Intel updated the driver recently, so I am going to update it right now.

I have another HP notebook (Stream Pro G4 with a newer graphics adapter HD 500, and I use the latest Intel graphics driver for that one too.  It is a different driver.  Never had a problem.

But I always suggest that you create a restore point first before trying the updated driver.

I have never made a restore point since the first time I did this and now the Intel DSA automatically updates the driver for me.

I don't need to manually install the driver anymore.  No more not supported messages.

Thank you very much, Sir,

I will try your that and will make sure to accept your given solution if that works for me. And I hope it will 🙂

Anytime.

I hadn't used my 350 G1 in a while, so thanks for posting the question which allowed me to update the graphics driver too.

Mine updated automatically once I opened the IDSA.

The next time there is an update, yours will too.

This version works just fine too.

Sorry sir, But your given solution didn't work for me, I don't think I should accept it cause it has not worked.

My current driver's date is: 29/10/2018

And the update's date is: 3/25/2020

But my PC shows me the message saying "The best driver is already installed'.

I don't know how to fix that. I followed each step absolutely like what you stated that. But that didn't seem to work. I even tried the ".exe" file but neither that work.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why it didn't work.

You downloaded the second file on the left of the driver page (64 bit zip)?

Unzipped it, and then followed the instructions Have Disk and go right to the igdlh64 (setup information file)?

It should have worked.

HP Recommended

I did everything perfectly. I think the issue is occurring due to the version.

As the version I have is: 20.19.15.5063 (I think this is according to releases by hp)

And the version in the update is:15.40.45.5126 (Definitely according to releases by intel)

I think this is causing windows to think that the existing version is better.

So I think I can uninstall my driver to solve my issue, And then install the driver provided by intel. Can you please tell me if that would be safe or not?

HP Recommended

You should be able to safely do what you propose.

Make sure you create a restore point first before uinstalling the adapter and driver in the device manager, and download the latest Intel graphics driver for your notebook on the HP support page.

Then go ahead and try it again.

I still don't get why it isn't working...

On my HP 350 G1 the driver that installed today using the same file is 20.19.15.5126, dated 1.21.2020
