I've had this computer for 4 days. I went to watch a show and when I do, I typically lay in my bed, on my side. So I put the computer on it's side as well. I've done this with my Dell Inspiron  2 in 1 convertible for years and had no issue. However, when I do so with computer, the keyboard and touchpad are completely disabled. I cannot use the power, volume or even the escape buttons. I do not have the screen rotation on. I have tablet mode turned off. I am using it like a regular clamshell laptop, all I am doing is turning it on it's side. Why am I having issues? Tech support said it could be a hardware failure, but this computer is brand new, how could something be wrong with it so soon? Is there a way to disable this from happening?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the keyboard and touchpad are getting disabled.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Are you turning the laptop screen?

If you have disabled, the tablet mode then the keyboard and the touchpad should work even if is it in the tablet mode. However, I recommend you update the BIOS and chipset driver from the below link and check if it helps.

If you continue facing the issue, then make sure all the Windows updates are installed (including optional) and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Select the Start (Windows) button from the bottom-left corner.
  2. Go to settings (gear icon).
  3. Select the Update and Security icon.
  4. Choose Windows Update tab in the sidebar (Circular arrows)
  5. Select Check for updates. If there is an available update, it will begin downloading automatically.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
