I am running 1073 version of Windows 10, 64 bit. Last night Microsoft decied that my display should use standard video driver, 1024 x 768. Don't really mind that except that the native dispaly size is not 1024x768. The display looks horable! I don't see any drivers listed at hp support for my computer using Windows 10. Was I not supposed to upgrade this machine? Lately, I have been getting error messages from Windows Update. The updates are not installing. I tried upgrading to the new Fall Creaters update, but it claims to not apply to my computer. What am I to do? MS upgraded my computer from a fine running version of Windows 7 to 10. And now it isn't supported.
To fix the dispaly problem. I have tried to get drivers from the manufacture. They don't have them. I have tried rolling the machine back to a restore point, that operaion failed.

My computer was working fine 3 days ago. I use it every moring and every afternoon. Was on Vacation Nov. 23rd to 25th. On the evening of the 25th. Microsoft install some update that caused the video driver to be swapped out, I think.
In desperate attempt to fix this, I updated the machine to 1709 Windows 10 build. Commonly know as the Fall Creaters Update. And there is no option to roll back the display driver.
In another desperate attempt, I googled up display driver for my dm3-1030us's 'ATI Radeon HD 3200' graphics card and found sp46648.exe, The Windows 7 driver for display adaptor. Sp46648.exe was signed by Hewlett-Packard Company Monday September 29, 2014 2:50:27 PM. So I have no reason to think it was a trogen.
The currently installed driver has the following attributes:
Driver Provider: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Driver Date: 7/25/2017
Driver Version: 22.19.128.0
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Comparibility Publisher
How does it happen that my driver was published after the installer? The installer was signed in 2014 but the driver is from 2017. I suspect that it didn't actually install, but I was given no indication that it failed. Other than nothing changed and I wasn't prompted to reboot.
I don't know exactly what the driver version was that is show from device manager. I do recall it was labeled 'ATI Radeon HD 3200'. The generic driver I saw originally is from an attempt to change the display resolution. If I go to Display Settings, there is Resolution combo box that claims 1024 x 768 is the recommened one. I know from years of experience that the machine will have advanced display settings. Often in there, you can set most any resolution.
So in the Dispaly Settings page, I clicked 'Display Adaptor Settings' link. Which brings up a tabed dialog. On the first tab 'Adaptor' under 'Adaptor Type' It says "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" This display driver has the following attributes:
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 6/21/2006
Driver Version: 10.0.16299.15
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows
Why does my machine have 2 display adaptors? The CPU in it is an 'AMD Athelon(tm) Neo X2 Dual Core Processor L335'. I don't see descrete graphics listed as a feature for this chip. But don't see any official specs from AMD, so possible that it does.
Windows won't let me disable the driver from 2006, so anthing else we can try? I am not going to work on this much longer. Have a new HP laptop on order and it will be here in 2 days. Picked up an 8th gen i5. Going to put 16 GB memory and Samsung 850 EVO SSD in it. Should be a good upgrade. The dm3 has given me about 8 years of work. Time for it to retire. Might just revert it back to Windows 7. My daughter won't take it with the video looking the way it is now.

Hi @tomcat007,
I recommend you uninstall all the display drivers from device manager and install the one you have downloaded for Windows 7.
Here is how it is done.
- Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care.

Well I had some trouble but it is working now. Back to a display that is 1366x768. The uninstall from node in device manager did not actually work. That would remove it temporarily from device manager, but it showed back up after rebooting and also after scaning for new hardware. Yes I did check the remove software box on the confirmation dialog.
What got it to work?
1. Right click the device in device manager
2. Select Properties
3. Select Uninstall device
Those steps should be functionally same as "
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall." But turns out they aren't same.
BTW: The driver installer would not install anything. Ran it after the first attempts at removing the driver. Generates just a log file if I choose 'Express' option. Found that the 'Custom' install option will tell me it has nothing that can be installed.
The driver I have now showing in device manager has these properties:
Driver Provider: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Driver Date: 1/13/2015
Driver Version: 8.970.100.9001
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher
Thanks for the help.
