Device Manager - the stream.sys driver file means your camera is only supported by Windows 7 or below. The computer was purchased THIS YEAR and is still under warranty. I have contacted HP many times about the problem. All solutions useless. I cannot use video camera - this product was SOLD UNDER WINDOWS 11 with a Windows 7 camera - not compatible. After the last suggestion from HP the camera icon no longer appears.

Hi @spacedout1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to have such issues with a brand-new HP Spectre x360 14-inch laptop, especially when it was marketed as Windows 11-compatible. The stream.sys driver is indeed an older driver, primarily associated with legacy devices from Windows 7 or earlier, which means your camera might not be properly supported by Windows 11. Here's how we can try to resolve the issue.
Steps to Troubleshoot the Camera Issue:
Uninstall the camera driver:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Locate the Camera section and expand it.
- Right-click on the camera device (if visible) and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the appropriate driver automatically.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Sometimes, Windows Update can detect missing drivers and provide a more updated version.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any pending updates.
Use HP Support Assistant:
- Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant.
- Let it scan your system and try to download the latest drivers for your device, including the camera.
Check HP's Official Website for Camera Drivers:
- Visit HP's official support website.
- Search for drivers for your exact laptop model (HP Spectre x360 14 inch).
- Check if there's a Windows 11 camera driver available that might have been missed during previous attempts.
Roll Back or Reinstall Windows Camera Driver:
- If after uninstalling the camera driver, the new installation does not work, you can manually attempt to install a Windows 10/11-compatible driver from Device Manager:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Select Action > Add legacy hardware.
- Choose Install the hardware that I manually select from a list.
- Scroll to Imaging devices and see if the camera shows up as an option.
System Restore:
- If your camera worked at some point and has since disappeared, you can try using System Restore to roll back the system to an earlier point when the camera was working.
Consider a USB Webcam (Temporary Solution):
- As a temporary workaround, using an external USB webcam may allow you to use video functions while the issue is being sorted out.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
