I bought a secondhand HP Compaq 6715s. It has windows 10 pro installed but there seems to be a problem with resolution of the display (images look a bit discaled and I get a horizontal scroll on pages where I didn't get them on my old notebook). Resolution is set to 1024x768 and I can only change it to 800x600. In properties I see 'generic PnP monitor'. What can I do to get the right resolution?

Hi:
You need to select the 84776.inf file.
If you don't see it when you try browsing to it from the device, try this...
When you get to the Browse my computer for driver software, just browse to the driver folder, make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Unfortunately the 6715s does not support Windows 10. The last support Microsoft OS supported on the 6715s was Windows 7. The ATI Radeon x1250 video does not have a driver available for Windows 10.

Hi:
See if you can force the W7 graphics driver to install as follows...
first download and install this free file utility...the second item on the list is for 64 bit.
The download and save, but do not run the W7 x64 graphics driver from your notebook's support page.
This package provides the video driver and control panel for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46004.exe
After you download and save the above graphics driver file, right click on it, and select 7-zip from the list of items.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: And let it extract the file into its folder name (sp46004).
Then go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters device category.
Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have Disk and browse to the driver folder 7-zip created\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF\CH_84776 and select the ATI Radeon X1250 graphics adapter from the list, and see if the driver installs that way.
Then restart the PC.
On some of those old notebooks, you have to go into the power options menu and disable (uncheck) fast startup if you get a black screen from a cold boot after windows starts to load.
Most notebook displays install as generic P&P monitors on any operating system.
The problem is the graphics adapter doesn't have a driver.

Thanks! I got stuck at this part:
'Click on Have Disk and browse to the driver folder 7-zip created \Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF\CH_84776
In directory LH6A_INF I don't see a subdirectory CH_84776. I only see a subdirectory named B_81609
I'm not sure how to continue?

I dont see that file. All I see in LH6A_INF is a subdirectory B_81609 and I cannot open that directory to select a file that is in it.
When I browse there with windows explorer I do see the file. I see CH_84776 .cat .inf and .msi

This morning when I turned on my computer I only got a black screen and a cursor. I don't know what I did to get it to work again (and how long that will last lol). Any thought on what to check or change in settings to prevent this from happening again?
