Hi @goddesseneri,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Screen flickering issues on laptops can be caused by various factors, including hardware, drivers, and software. Since the issue does not occur when you use an external monitor, it suggests that the problem is likely related to the laptop's display or its internal connections. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Update Graphics Drivers:
Check for Updates via Windows Update:
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Update Drivers from Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics card (e.g., Intel, NVIDIA, AMD) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Download Drivers from Manufacturer:
- Visit the HP support page for your model: HP Pavilion Plus 14-inch Laptop PC 14-ew1000.
- Download and install the latest graphics drivers.
2. Check Display Settings:
Adjust Refresh Rate:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click Advanced display settings.
- Under Refresh rate, choose the highest available rate.
Disable Hardware Acceleration (in Zoom):
- Open the Zoom app.
- Click your profile picture and go to Settings.
- Navigate to Video.
- Uncheck the option Use hardware acceleration for video processing.
3. Run Built-in Troubleshooter:
- Windows Troubleshooter:
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Video Playback and run the troubleshooter.
4. Check for BIOS/Firmware Updates:
- Update BIOS:
- Visit the HP support page and check if there is a BIOS update available for your model.
- Follow the instructions to update the BIOS if needed.
Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hi @goddesseneri,
Please find the next steps below.
5. Test in Safe Mode:
- Boot into Safe Mode:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Boot tab and check Safe boot.
- Restart your laptop and see if the flickering occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t, a third-party application might be causing the issue.
6. External Factors:
- Check for Physical Damage:
- Gently adjust the screen and check if the flickering changes or stops. This could indicate a loose or damaged connection.
- Inspect the screen for any visible damage or loose hinges.
7. Reset Display Driver:
- Reset Display Driver:
- Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the display driver. The screen will flicker and then come back.
8. Reinstall Zoom:
- Uninstall and Reinstall Zoom:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall Zoom.
- Download the latest version from the Zoom website and reinstall it.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially resolve the screen flickering issue on your HP Pavilion Plus 14-inch Laptop.
If the problem persists after trying all these steps, it may be a hardware issue. Contact HP phone support for further diagnosis and potential repair.
