Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello everyone for the past 2 years or so I have been experiencing this problem on my hp pavilion cs3059nl.
When I turn on the computer after logging into windows the screen goes black for a few seconds and then shows me the windows 10 screen and then goes black again, then the screens are in fits and starts. The problem I remember originated when I installed windows 11 in fact after 1 year I went back to 10 but for the last few weeks it has been recurring. When I had windows 11 if I put youtube on half screen and watched a video while I was programming the problem would present itself.
I remember having already updated drivers for both the intel card and the mx250.
To fix the problem I have to key restart the pc for 2/3 times and then it works again.

What can it depend on? Thank you all

@piedep100, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion cs3059nl is experiencing a black screen flickering issue that started after upgrading to Windows 11 and has persisted even after rolling back to Windows 10. Since you've already updated both the Intel integrated graphics and NVIDIA GeForce MX250 drivers, let's explore other potential causes and fixes.

Possible Causes

Corrupt Graphics Drivers – Even if updated, they might be corrupt or not properly installed.

Conflicting Graphics Settings – Windows might be switching between Intel and MX250 incorrectly.

Fast Startup Issues – Windows 10’s Fast Startup can sometimes cause black screen problems.

Hardware Acceleration in Browsers/Programs – You mentioned YouTube and programming, which often rely on hardware acceleration.

Windows Power Management Issues – The system might not be handling power transitions properly.

Steps to Fix

1. Clean Install Graphics Drivers

Since updating drivers didn’t help, try a clean installation:

>Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller): Official DDU Website

>Boot into Safe Mode.

>Use DDU to uninstall both Intel and NVIDIA drivers completely.

>Restart your PC normally.

>Download and install the latest drivers from:

Intel: Intel Driver & Support Assistant

NVIDIA: Official NVIDIA MX250 Drivers

2. Disable Fast Startup

>Open Control PanelPower Options.

>Click Choose what the power buttons do.

>Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.

>Uncheck "Turn on fast startup".

>Save changes and restart.

3. Adjust Graphics Switching (NVIDIA Control Panel)

>Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

>Go to Manage 3D SettingsGlobal Settings.

>Set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.

>In Program Settings, make sure your coding software and browser are using NVIDIA MX250.

4. Disable Hardware Acceleration

If this issue happens during YouTube or programming:

>>Chrome/Edge:

>Go to SettingsSystem.

>Disable Use hardware acceleration when available.

>Restart the browser.

>>VS Code (or other IDEs):

>Look for hardware acceleration settings and disable them.

5. Check for Windows Corruption

>Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

  • sfc /scannow

>If errors are found, restart and then run:

  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If the problem persists, try rolling back to an earlier NVIDIA or Intel driver (especially if the issue wasn’t there before). Also, check if the issue happens only on battery or when plugged in—that could indicate a power management issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
