broken screen?

Used my laptop before i went to bed last night, it was completely fine, everything was normal. the next day, i open my laptop to find the screen looking like someone stomped on it (it was left alone the whole time, nothing like that has happened to it) and it has continued to grow in size to what it is now. It is definitely the physical display because it connects to my tv and I can still see the screen. Is it a lost cause?
