I just bought an HP elitebook from a computer repair shop. I checked it out pretty well during the purchase, including running the HP diagnostics. When I attempted to join a zoom meeting, the whole reason for buying this laptop, the camera caused the app to crash. The drivers are up to date, the hardware passes all checks, and does sometimes function for several seconds before the crash. Once it crashes I have trouble reconnecting to meetings, usually requiring a restart. I also saw a message somewhere in settings that said the camera was in use. Ive ensured that the security settings match my other pc's, I have no other security software besides windows defender, and all apps have the appropriate permissions for the camera. I have seen elsewhere that it's caused by windows latest update, but that a clean install of windows didn't help. Is there any actual fix for this problem or do I have to carry a usb webcam around with me, and would that even work?
The solution for me was a registry edit from the following article. I can say that it got my camera working, but I don't know if there are any other effects.... try at own risk I guess. Is it obvious that I am not knowledgable in registry issues.
