My built in camera on my laptop doesn't always work. When I use it sometimes it turns green or has lines running through it and it basically spazzes out. But not all the time. I have updated and restarted my laptop but the camera still does the same things. Sometimes it doesn't even turn on and is just a black screen. I am not sure why and not sure how to fix it.

Hi @kiki103,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop's built-in camera is experiencing issues such as turning green, displaying lines, or not turning on at all, there are several potential reasons and solutions you can try.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that your camera drivers are up-to-date. You can go to the official HP website, locate your laptop model, and download the latest camera drivers available.
- Check for Software Conflicts: Some third-party applications or software may conflict with your camera. Make sure that no other application is using the camera simultaneously. Close all unnecessary applications and try using the camera again.
- Device Manager Check: Check the Device Manager for any issues with the camera. Right-click on the Start button, select "Device Manager," and find the camera under the "Imaging devices" section. If there's a yellow triangle or any error message, try updating or reinstalling the driver.
- Antivirus or Security Software: Your antivirus or security software might be blocking the camera. Temporarily disable the antivirus and check if the issue persists. If it does, consider adjusting the settings to allow the camera.
- BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Sometimes, firmware updates can address hardware-related issues.
- System Restore: If the issue started recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the camera was working correctly. Choose a restore point before the problem occurred.
- Reset Camera App: If you are using a specific camera application, try resetting it. Right-click on the camera app, go to "Settings" or "App Info," and look for an option to reset the app.
- Reinstall Camera App: If the problem persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the camera application. You can do this through the "Settings" or "Control Panel" on your laptop.
- Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for hardware-related issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
