" Camera not found" error; laptop camera worked ok on zoom last week. No shutter close switch on this laptop.

Is there a software shutter close switch and, if so, how do I reactivate the camera?

Hi @The_Shoe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's camera was working fine last week on Zoom but suddenly shows a "Camera not found" error, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here's what you can try.

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software glitches that may be causing the camera to not be recognized.
  • Check device manager: Go to Device Manager (you can search for it in the Windows search bar), expand the "Imaging devices" section, and see if your camera is listed there. If you see a yellow exclamation mark or any other warning symbol next to the camera, there might be a driver issue.
  • Update drivers: Right-click on the camera in Device Manager and select "Update driver." Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers online. Alternatively, you can visit the HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest drivers for the camera.
  • Check privacy settings: In Windows 10/11, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera, and make sure that the option "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on. Also, scroll down and ensure that individual apps like Zoom have permission to access the camera.
  • Run hardware troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help diagnose and fix common hardware problems. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and run the "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter.
  • Check antivirus/firewall settings: Sometimes, antivirus software or firewall settings can block access to the camera. Temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall and see if the camera works.
  • Check for third-party camera management software: Some third-party camera management software might interfere with the built-in camera functionality. Try disabling or uninstalling any such software.
  • Reset BIOS settings: If none of the above solutions work, you can try resetting your laptop's BIOS settings to default. This process varies depending on your laptop model, so consult the user manual or HP's support website for instructions.
  • Hardware check: If the camera still doesn't work after trying all the above steps, it's possible that there's a hardware issue with the camera itself.

Remember to back up any important data before making any significant changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
