Hi @leah232,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop camera is not working and is no longer visible in Device Manager, follow these steps to resolve the issue.
Check for Camera Hardware Issues
- Ensure that your camera is not physically damaged.
- Verify that there’s no dust or obstruction covering the camera.
Enable the Camera in BIOS
Sometimes, the camera is disabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or F10 during boot).
- Look for an option related to the camera under "Integrated Peripherals" or similar and ensure it's enabled.
- Save changes and restart your laptop.
Run the Hardware Troubleshooter
- Open Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot → Additional troubleshooters → Camera.
- Run the troubleshooter to identify and fix issues.
Install/Update Camera Drivers
Check Windows Update:
- Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update.
- Check for updates. Sometimes, Windows will detect missing drivers and reinstall them automatically.
Reinstall Drivers:
- Visit the HP Drivers & Software page.
- Enter your laptop’s model number and download the camera driver if available.
- Install the driver and restart your laptop.
Use Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager → Click View → Select Show hidden devices.
- If the camera appears under Imaging Devices or Cameras, right-click it and select Enable.
- If it doesn’t appear, proceed to the next step.
Manually Add the Camera
- In Device Manager, click Action → Add legacy hardware.
- Click Next → Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced) → Click Next.
- Look for Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- Follow the prompts to install the hardware.

Update Chipset Drivers
Sometimes, a missing camera is related to chipset drivers.
- Download the latest chipset drivers for your laptop from HP's support website.
- Install the drivers and restart your laptop.
Reset Windows
If the above steps fail, consider resetting Windows to its default state while keeping your files.
- Open Settings → Update & Security → Recovery.
- Select Reset this PC and choose Keep my files.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
