Hi @AdithyaReddy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your built-in webcam has stopped working and you have upcoming interviews, it's crucial to get it fixed as soon as possible. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve common webcam issues:

1. Check Hardware and Connections

Inspect the Camera Lens:

  • Ensure there is no obstruction or dirt on the camera lens.

Verify Camera Activation:

  • Ensure that the webcam is turned on. Some laptops have a function key (e.g., Fn + F10) that toggles the webcam on and off.

2. Restart Your Computer

  • Simple Restart:
    • Restarting your computer can resolve many issues by refreshing system settings.

3. Check Camera Settings

  • Privacy Settings:
    • Windows: Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera. Ensure that access to the camera is allowed for apps.
    • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab. Select Camera and ensure the necessary apps have access.

4. Update or Reinstall Webcam Drivers

Update Drivers:

  • Windows: Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start menu and select it). Find Imaging Devices, right-click your webcam, and select Update Driver. Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
  • Mac: Webcam drivers are typically updated through macOS updates. Go to System Preferences > Software Update and check for any available updates.

Reinstall Drivers:

  • Windows: In Device Manager, right-click the webcam under Imaging Devices, select Uninstall device, then restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers upon reboot.
  • Mac: Reinstalling macOS can sometimes fix driver issues, but this should be a last resort. Ensure you have backups before considering this.

5. Test Webcam with Different Apps

  • Try Different Applications:
    • Test the webcam with various apps (e.g., Zoom, Skype, or the built-in Camera app) to determine if the issue is specific to one application.

6. Check for Software Conflicts

Close Other Applications:

  • Ensure no other applications are using the webcam. Sometimes, software conflicts can prevent the webcam from functioning.

Check Background Processes:

  • Windows: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for any applications that might be using the camera. End those tasks if necessary.
  • Mac: Open Activity Monitor and look for processes that may be using the webcam.

7. Run a Troubleshooter (Windows)

  • Use the Built-in Troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Select Additional troubleshooters and run the troubleshooter for Hardware and Devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
