Hi @gurenda,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your camera is physically switched off and you’re unable to find the switch, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check for Physical Switches or Covers
- Laptop Body: Inspect the edges and sides of your laptop for any physical switches or sliders that might control the camera. Some laptops have a physical privacy switch to disable the webcam.
- Keyboard: Look for function keys that might control the camera. On some laptops, there’s a key with a camera icon (often F8, F10, or F12). Pressing Fn + the camera key might toggle the camera on or off.
2. Examine the Webcam Privacy Shutter
- Integrated Shutter: Some laptops have a built-in physical shutter that covers the camera lens for privacy. Look closely at the top of your screen around the camera area for any small slider or switch that could be covering the lens.
- External Covers: If you’re using an external webcam, check if there’s a manual cover that could be blocking the lens.
3. Check Device Manager
Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Find Cameras: Expand the Imaging Devices or Cameras section.
- Check for Errors: Right-click on the camera device and select Properties to see if there are any error messages or if the device is disabled.
Enable Camera:
- Right-Click: If the camera is listed but disabled, right-click on it and select Enable device.
4. Check Camera Settings
Windows Settings:
- Open Settings: Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Check Access: Ensure that camera access is allowed for your apps and that the camera is turned on.
Zoom Settings:
- Open Zoom: Start Zoom and go to Settings.
- Check Video Settings: Navigate to Video and see if the camera is listed and selected. Ensure the camera is not disabled within Zoom settings.
5. Restart Your Computer
- Reboot: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve issues related to hardware recognition or software conflicts.
6. Update or Reinstall Camera Drivers
Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-Click on your camera device and select Update driver.
- Search Automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Drivers:
- Right-Click on the camera device in Device Manager and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the camera drivers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
