Hi @wilson153030,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

To assist you with locating the camera on/off button on your HP ENVY x360 laptop, I’ll first gather some information and then guide you through troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

Can you confirm the exact model of your HP ENVY x360 laptop? This will help determine the location of any physical camera on/off buttons or settings specific to your model.

  • Indicator Light: When you try to use the camera, do you see any indicator lights near the camera, such as a white or amber light? This can help determine if the camera is being blocked or disabled.
  •
  • Camera Software: Have you tried using the camera in multiple applications, like the Camera app, Zoom, or Skype? Does the camera work in any of them, or does it remain off?
  •
  • Device Manager: Have you checked the Device Manager to see if the camera is listed under Imaging devices or Cameras? If it is listed, are there any errors or warning icons (like a yellow triangle)?
  •
  • Privacy Shutter: Does your laptop have a physical privacy shutter or camera cover that could be blocking the camera lens?

Meanwhile, I want you to try the following steps.

Step 1: Check for a Physical Camera On/Off Button

  1. Function Key Check:
    • On many HP ENVY x360 laptops, the camera can be toggled on or off using a function key combination, usually marked with a camera icon.
    • Look for a camera icon on one of the function keys (typically F6, F10, or another F-key).
    • If found, press the Fn key + the function key with the camera icon to toggle the camera on/off.

Step 2: Check Camera Privacy Settings

  1. Windows Privacy Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
    • Ensure that the toggle switch under Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.
    • Scroll down to make sure individual apps are also allowed access to the camera.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @wilson153030,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Step 3: Verify Camera Status in Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager:
    • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Imaging devices or Cameras and check if your camera is listed.
    • If the camera is listed but has a down arrow, right-click it and select Enable.
    • If there’s an error icon, right-click the camera and select Update driver or Scan for hardware changes.

Step 4: Update or Reinstall Camera Drivers

  1. Update Camera Drivers:
    • In Device Manager, right-click on your camera and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  2. Reinstall Camera Drivers:
    • If updating doesn’t help, right-click the camera in Device Manager, select Uninstall device, and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Step 5: HP Support Assistant

  1. Use HP Support Assistant:
    • Open the HP Support Assistant app on your laptop.
    • Run a diagnostic test for the camera to identify and resolve any detected issues.

Step 6: BIOS Settings Check

  1. Access BIOS:
    • Restart your laptop and press F10 during startup to enter the BIOS setup.
    • Look for any settings related to the camera under Security or Advanced tabs to ensure it’s not disabled in BIOS.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, there may be a deeper hardware issue, and I recommend you contact phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
