Microsoft Windows 11

hi guys . hope you all well

about 2 weeks ago hp snuck some updates in on windows updates in and 1 of the things i was hacked with was a display adapter driver that was dated in june 2023 . naturally i uninstalled it  and installed the latest one i could find dated 26/12/202 . besides the fact that i have to continuously stop and disable these ho services to avoid being hacked they were sent via windows updates and hacked me in anycase . I had to uninstall their old driver twice and reinstall my driver 3 times and remove the offending file from windows updates before it would stop installing itself . putting that aside my screen is now terrible . it was always bad but i really cant even read it now .  i think this laptop came with the cheapest crap screen they could rip me off with . is there anyway i can make my screen legible . there doesnt seem to be any settings to this monitor outside of display settings . . How HP can sell crap like this to people is incredible to me . if anyone has any suggestions on how i can have it good enough until i can go biy a proper branded  laptop i would appreciate it  , sorry for possible bad spelling in this message but the print in this message is very light and almost totally illegible.

Hi @jenko69,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with multiple challenges here, including display quality issues, driver conflicts, and concerns about Windows updates. Let’s try to tackle the issues step-by-step and work toward improving the readability of your screen.

Driver Management

  • Uninstall Problematic Drivers:
    • Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your laptop, hold Shift, and select Restart from the power menu. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart, then select Safe Mode with Networking.
    • Go to Device Manager: Right-click on the Start Menu > Device Manager > Display Adapters.
    • Uninstall any problematic or old drivers. Right-click the display adapter, select Uninstall Device, and check the box to delete the driver software.
  • Reinstall Latest Drivers:
    • Download the latest driver directly from your GPU manufacturer (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel). Avoid using Windows Update for this step.
    • Install the driver and restart your laptop.

Adjust Display Settings

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings:
    • Set the resolution to the recommended value.
    • Under Scale and layout, adjust the scale to 125% or 150% to make text larger.
  • Open Advanced Display Settings:
    • Confirm the correct refresh rate is selected.

Calibrate Display Colors

  • Search for Color Calibration in Windows.
  • Follow the steps to adjust gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance. This can improve legibility.

ClearType Text

  • Search for Adjust ClearType Text in the Start menu.
  • Follow the ClearType wizard to make text sharper and more readable.

Accessibility Features

  • Enable High Contrast Mode:
    • Press Alt + Shift + Print Screen or search for "High Contrast" in settings.
    • Select a high-contrast theme to improve readability.
  • Use the Magnifier Tool:
    • Press Windows Key + Plus (+) to activate the magnifier.

External Monitor as a Temporary Fix

  • If your laptop screen remains subpar, consider connecting an external monitor to tide you over until you purchase a new device. This can significantly improve usability.

Prevent Windows from Installing Drivers Automatically

  • Open Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings.
  • Under the Hardware tab, select Device Installation Settings.
  • Choose "No, let me choose what to do" and then "Never install driver software from Windows Update."

Evaluate the Display Panel

If your screen is inherently poor quality, there’s only so much software adjustments can do. A potential upgrade might involve:

  • Replacing the laptop’s screen with a better-quality panel (if compatible).
  • Saving for a new device with a better display specification.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

hi there . thanks for replying . i solved the driver issue and im guessing ive solved the the hpcsa services . but i suspect that is only temporary again . the problem with the screen i am not solving is as soon as i extend or dupicare the display in win 11 ,  the laptop screen goes all faded and almost impossible to see . however when i unplug the HDMI cable the monitor screen is fine again  . i think its just crappy equipment . The drivers are at the latest versions . Also when conneceed via hdmi cable  you can enter the display settings to  manipulate the  settings but the screen remains dull and faded  .As soon as you  unlug the HDMI cable the screen brightens immediately . I  have several hdmi cables and it happens on all 3 that  i tested
