Hi @Zara37,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Black lines on a Chromebook screen can be caused by a variety of issues, from hardware problems to software glitches. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Restart Your Chromebook
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues. Press and hold the power button until the Chromebook turns off, then turn it back on.
2. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the screen for any visible cracks or damage. Physical damage could be causing the black lines.
3. Adjust Screen Brightness and Resolution
- Sometimes, adjusting the screen brightness or resolution can help. Go to Settings > Device > Displays to adjust these settings.
4. Perform a Hard Reset
- A hard reset can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues. To perform a hard reset:
- Turn off your Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Refresh key (which looks like a circular arrow) and then press the Power button.
- Release both keys when the Chromebook starts.
5. Check for External Display Issues
- If you have an external monitor or TV, connect your Chromebook to it to see if the lines appear on the external display as well. This can help determine if the issue is with the Chromebook’s screen or its internal components.
6. Boot in Safe Mode
- Booting in Safe Mode (Powerwash) can help determine if the issue is software-related:
- Power off your Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Esc + Refresh keys and then press the Power button.
- When you see the recovery screen, release the keys.
7. Check for Software Updates
- Ensure that your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS:
- Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
8. Reset Chromebook to Factory Settings
- If the problem persists, you might need to reset your Chromebook to its factory settings (Powerwash). Be sure to back up your data first:
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash > Reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
