when I upgraded to windows 8.1 from 7 I lost the ability to use my fingerprint scanner and control my webcam with the truevision program. Do I have to have windows 7 to use them again? I downloaded the drivers but they dont work.

Hi:
You probably would need to reinstall W7, but try this first and see if this works...
If the fingerprint sensor driver is installed, then see if this W8.1 simple pass software works to enroll your fingerprint.
This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This software protects identity information and account access using the computer owner's fingerprint.

If the fingerprint driver is not installed, try this one for W8.1...
This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications.

See if you can use the cyberlink youcam software for W8.1...
This package contains the CyberLink YouCam Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. CyberLink YouCam is a webcam application that enables users to capture images and video from a web camera and apply visual effects to captured images and video.
