HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My screen keeps flickering at random points- to a point where it can't even be used. This may be as soon as I turn it on, or a while after using it. Therefore is not down to over-heating, and is all updated. The laptop has not been externally damaged.

Any ideas? As my waranty is due to expire in 23 days.

Hi @chrisdphill,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Flickering screens on laptops can be quite frustrating and can stem from various issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the flickering issue on your HP 15.6 Inch Laptop.

  • Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can often lead to display issues. Visit the official HP website and download the latest graphics drivers for your laptop model.
  • Adjust Refresh Rate: Sometimes, the refresh rate of the display might be set too high for the screen to handle. Go to the display settings on your laptop and try lowering the refresh rate to see if the flickering improves.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Windows updates can also include fixes for display-related issues. Make sure your operating system is up to date.
  • Safe Mode: Boot your laptop into Safe Mode. If the flickering stops in Safe Mode, it could indicate that a third-party software or driver is causing the issue. You can then start identifying and uninstalling the problematic software or drivers.
  • External Monitor: If you have access to an external monitor, connect your laptop to it. If the external monitor displays normally without flickering, the issue might be with your laptop's internal display or its connections.
  • Check Cables and Connections: If the flickering is happening intermittently, it's possible that there's a loose cable connection between the display and the motherboard. If you're comfortable doing so, you might open the laptop (if it's not under warranty) and check for any loose connections. If it's under warranty, consider reaching out to HP support.
  • Hardware Issues: Sometimes, hardware components like the display itself or the graphics card might be faulty. If your laptop is still under warranty, it's best to contact HP support for assistance.
  • Software Conflicts: Certain software applications or drivers can conflict with each other and cause display issues. Try uninstalling any recently installed software or drivers to see if that resolves the problem.
  • Power Settings: In some cases, certain power settings can cause display issues. Check your laptop's power settings and set them to default or balanced.
  • Malware Scan: Run a thorough malware scan to ensure that malicious software isn't causing the flickering issue.
  • External Factors: Sometimes, external factors like magnetic fields or nearby electronic devices can interfere with laptop displays. Try using your laptop in a different location to rule out these factors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
