Hello HP Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue with the Fn key on my HP laptop. Previously I was able to toggle Fn Lock using the Shift + Fn shortcut and it worked normally. Recently this shortcut stopped working and Fn Lock no longer changes.

I have already restarted the device and checked the keyboard but the problem still exists. The Fn key itself works in some functions but the Shift + Fn combination does nothing now.

Please let me know how to enable Fn Lock again and whether this could be related to a BIOS setting, keyboard driver, or a recent update. I would also appreciate any troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.

Thank you for your support.

Ahmed

Hi @Abozayed215,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model you’re using.

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

  1. Check BIOS Settings
    • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 during startup to enter BIOS.
    • Look for an option related to Action Keys Mode or Fn Key behavior. Toggle this setting and see if it restores Fn Lock functionality.
  2. Update Keyboard Drivers
    • Open Device Manager → expand Keyboards → right-click your keyboard driver → select Update driver.
    • Restart the laptop after updating.
  3. HP Support Assistant
    • Run HP Support Assistant to check for any pending updates (BIOS, drivers, or firmware).
  4. Windows Keyboard Settings
    • Go to Settings → Devices → Typing and confirm if any special keyboard shortcuts or accessibility features are interfering.
  5. Test Alternate Shortcuts
  • On some HP models, Fn Lock is toggled using Fn + Esc instead of Shift + Fn. Please try this combination as well.

I hope this helps.
