Hi @sahnasismail,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when the F1 key or other function keys on your HP PC stop working, especially when you're trying to access help or perform quick actions. Let’s fix this together.

Step-by-Step Fix for HP Function Keys (F1, etc.)

1. Check Action Key Mode in BIOS

HP laptops often use Action Key Mode, which changes how function keys behave.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly during startup.
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Go to System Configuration > Action Keys Mode.
  • If it's Disabled, you’ll need to press Fn + F1 to use F1.
  • If it's enabled, pressing F1 alone should work.
Tip: Enable Action Keys Mode if you want to use function keys without pressing Fn.

2. Update HP Hotkey Support Driver

HP uses a special driver to manage function keys.

Search for your model: Official HP® Support

3. Check Keyboard Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Typing > Advanced Keyboard Settings
  • Make sure to use the desktop language bar when it's available is enabled.

4. Run HP Keyboard Diagnostics

Use HP’s built-in tool to test your keyboard: 🔗 HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
