Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

Hi!

Here's my problem:

Computer HP laptop 17-cn0031no (6K9D2EA).

Monitor 1: Samsung LS27B61x

Monitor 2: Samsung LS27D302GAUXEN

Adapter:  Dacota Platinum DP8IN1 1044997

I bought this adapter so that I could connect both monitors in my computer. Both monitors work separately when connected to the computer HDMI. However, they don't work when connected to this adapter; not separately nor together. Is it true what Copilot told me that USB-C in my computer doesn't support moving videos and I'd need a DisplayLink dock or adapter and the adapter I have now is not a correct one? And if I buy another dock/adapter, is there any guarantees that it would work any better?

I understand that you’re trying to connect two external monitors to your HP Laptop 17-cn0031no, but the adapter you purchased isn’t working with either display. Let’s go through a few checks to understand why this is happening and what options you have.

Check USB-C port capabilities on your laptop
Your laptop’s USB-C port supports data transfer and charging only.
It does not support video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode), so a normal USB-C → HDMI/DP splitter will not work.

Why your current adapter doesn’t display video
Adapters that rely on USB-C Alt Mode require video output support from the laptop.
Since your laptop doesn’t send video through USB-C, the adapter cannot send video to either monitor.

Verify HDMI port output
Your HDMI port can drive only one external monitor directly.
This is why each monitor works when plugged into HDMI individually.

Use a DisplayLink-based dock if you need two monitors
To run two external monitors, you need a docking station or adapter that uses DisplayLink technology.
DisplayLink docks generate video using USB data instead of USB-C Alt Mode, meaning they work on your laptop.

Check for DisplayLink compatibility before buying
Look for a dock or adapter that clearly states:
“DisplayLink DL-xxxx chipset” or “Supports dual extended displays via DisplayLink.”
These have a much higher chance of working regardless of your laptop’s USB-C limitations.

Install DisplayLink drivers after purchase
Once you get a DisplayLink dock, install the DisplayLink driver on your laptop for proper functionality.
This ensures both monitors are detected and work in extended mode.

I hope this helps.

Yes, the problem ended up being the USB-C not transferring video.
