If I don't move the cursor or touch my keyboard for a minut minute or two (not sure exactly how long), my screen goes blank. To continue working I have to put in a pin number. I want to either remove this feature or find a computer that doesn't havebthis absolutely useless frustrating bug.

Hi @mearik,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP computer is timing out and going to sleep or hibernation mode, there are several ways you can prevent this from happening.
- Change Power Settings: Open the "Control Panel," and navigate to "Power Options." From there, you can adjust the settings to prevent the computer from timing out or going to sleep. You can set the display to stay on indefinitely, prevent the computer from going to sleep, or set the timer to a longer duration.
- Adjust Sleep Settings: Another option is to adjust the sleep settings specifically. Navigate to "Control Panel," then "System and Security," and then "Power Options." From there, you can click "Change plan settings" and adjust the sleep settings to a longer duration or turn it off altogether.
- Update Drivers: Sometimes outdated drivers can cause the computer to time out or go to sleep unexpectedly. You can check for driver updates in the "Device Manager" and install any available updates.
- Disable Screen Saver: If you have a screen saver enabled, it could be causing the computer to time out. Navigate to "Control Panel," then "Appearance and Personalization," and then "Change screen saver." From there, you can disable the screen saver altogether.
- Keep the computer active: Finally, you can prevent the computer from timing out by keeping it active. For example, you can play music or videos, move the mouse or touchpad, or use a program that requires continuous input.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
