I  have an HP Envy x360 Convertible 13-y0xx laptop and was wondering if there was an active stylus I could use on it. The only stylus I could get to work was a capacative stylus which still skips on the screen, which does not work for taking notes in a college class. Any help or recommendations would be great. Thanks!

Hi @svwvt,

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! This is a great location to get resolutions and interact with experts from the community. I came across your post and wanted to assist you.

I did a bit of research and found that HP Envy x360 Touchscreen Notebook has Capacitive screen, that means it responds to electro discharge when we touch the screen bare handed. So the Notebook screen will not respond/bare minimum responds to Pressure Sensitive HP Active Stylus as it works on the principle of Resistivewhere you have to apply a little pressure.

Here's a list of compatible active stylus: Click here

There are no drivers or software if the PC does not recognise the Active pen.

I hope, I have answered your questions, If you need any further assistance, please do let me know.

I am running into the same problem.

I as well have a Envy x360 convertible 13-y0xx

I want to emphasize the 13-y0xx, this model is not listed on your "compatability chart"

Can there be a link to the stylus intended for THIS model?  Would a bluetooth pen work?  I too need a stylus for writing notes for school and have been struggling through this search as well.

I did check the product specifications and found that there is no pen input available for your computer.

Did you find any stylus that works well with the HP ENVY X360 convertible 13-y0xx ??

Active pens only work if the system has a factory fitted active pen digitiser to interact with the pen. If a system released more than six months ago is not on the active pen compatibility list then it is almost certain there is no digitiser and therefore no active pen support.

Right click the Windows icon at the left of the task bar and choose "System" in the menu. Scroll down to "Device specifications". Is there any mention of pen support in the "Pen and touch" line - for example my system says "Pen and touch    Pen and touch support with 10 touch points"? If there is no mention of pen support then it is very likely the system has no active pen digitiser.

Thanks for the reply, indeed i checked what you suggested and it says:

Pen and touch: " Touch support with 10 touch points"

Does that means that it has pen digitizer?, if so which one would be recommended?

As I suspected, Windows is seeing touch screen hardware but no active pen digitiser. Sadly, your system has no hardware support for active pen and there will be no reasonable upgrade route to add it.

I have not checked through the Maintenance and Service Guide, but if there is another model in the same range with active pen support then, at minimum, you are likely to need to replace the display assembly and maybe also other components with those from the active pen model - perhaps even the system board. If there is no model in the same range with active pen support, you cannot upgrade at all. Even if such an upgrade is possible - which I doubt - it would likely be more cost effective to sell the system you have and buy one that has active pen support than throw away a lot of parts from a working system and buy expensive spares to replace them.

You are not the first Envy x360 user in the forums to be surprised and disappointed at the lack of active pen support.
