HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 (2W0J5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have one monitor plugged into laptop, which is working, and one plugged into new docking station, but the one plugged into docking station will not connect, and a side note, when having HP identify my products, it cannot find docking station.  I also upgraded to Windows 11 Pro last year for work reasons.

@Madison66,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP USB-C G5 Docking Station isn't properly detecting the monitor. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

Reconnect Everything

  • Unplug your docking station from power and laptop.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the monitor from the dock.
  • Reconnect the dock to your laptop via USB-C and power it on.

Check Monitor Input & Cables

  • Ensure the monitor is set to the correct input source (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort).
  • Try a different HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
  • If possible, test the monitor directly on your laptop to rule out display issues.

Update Docking Station Firmware & Drivers

  • Download and install the HP USB-C Dock G5 Firmware Update Utility from the HP Support website.
  • Ensure HP USB-C Dock G5 Driver is installed (check HP’s support site).

Update Graphics & USB Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click your GPU (Intel/NVIDIA/AMD), and update the drivers.
  • Also, update Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device Manager.

Check Display Settings

  • Right-click the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Multiple displays > Click Detect.
  • If the second monitor appears but is disabled, set it to Extend these displays.

Check Windows Power Settings

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Under USB settings, disable USB selective suspend.

Try a Different Port

  • If your laptop has multiple USB-C or Thunderbolt ports, try a different one.
  • Some laptops have data-only or power-only USB-C ports, so ensure you're using a full-featured USB-C port.

Test Another Device

  • If you have access to another laptop, plug the dock into that device and see if it detects the monitor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
