Hi @emswisnia,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue with your HP OMEN 15-dc0005nw laptop's keyboard might be related to the BIOS or software configuration, especially since updating the BIOS temporarily resolved the problem previously.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Restart Your Laptop

  • A simple restart can sometimes resolve keyboard issues if they are caused by temporary software glitches.

2. Check Keyboard Settings

  • Make sure that the keyboard layout and settings in Windows 11 are correct:
    1. Go to Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
    2. Ensure that the keyboard layout matches your physical keyboard.
    3. Check for any changes or anomalies in keyboard settings.

3. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Driver

  • The issue might be due to a corrupted keyboard driver:
    1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Keyboards section.
    3. Right-click on your keyboard driver and select Update driver.
    4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and let Windows search for any updates.
    5. If no updates are found, you can try uninstalling the keyboard driver and restarting your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.

4. Update BIOS Again

  • Since updating the BIOS resolved the issue before, it might help to do it again:
    1. Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop model (OMEN by HP 15-dc0005nw) to find the latest BIOS update.
    2. Download and install the latest BIOS update by following the on-screen instructions.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure your Windows 11 is fully updated:
    1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
    2. Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

6. Perform a Hard Reset

  • A hard reset can help clear any minor hardware or firmware issues:
    1. Shut down your laptop completely.
    2. Disconnect any external devices.
    3. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
    4. Release the button, then reconnect the power cable and restart your laptop.

7. Test Keyboard in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F10 or Esc) during startup.
  • Test if the QWERASDF keys work in the BIOS environment. If they do, the issue is likely with Windows or software; if not, it might be a hardware problem.

8. Use an External Keyboard

  • Try connecting an external USB keyboard to see if the issue persists. If the external keyboard works fine, it may indicate a hardware issue with the built-in keyboard.

9. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

  • HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostic tools:
    1. Restart your laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly during startup to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
    2. Run the keyboard test to check for hardware issues.
