Keyboard lighting or backlighting... how to set up or turn on.

Welcome to the HP Community --

The backlit keyboard is an optional feature on this series.

What?

"Optional" means that not every computer in the model series comes with a backlit keyboard.

IF your system includes a backlit keyboard the on / off switch is the F5 key (top row of keys, about the center).

If the key is blank, that is, no "sunburst ..." icon on the key, the keyboard does not include back lighting.

This single statement at the bottom of the page indicates that replacing the keyboard is certainly possible -- it is perhaps not a job for a novice:  The top cover/keyboard spare part remains after all other spare parts have been removed.
