I am using and external keyboard.  The top row of letter keys (QWERTYUIOP{}) do not work. I started months ago with some of the letters needing to be pressed longer. I have tried many of the options suggested to get the keyboard working.   Although every suggestion brings me to having to replace the keyboard - I am giving it one more try to see if I have missed something. My laptop computer is less than 18 months old - so out of warranty.  Replacing  the keyboard sounds like it will cost almost half of what I paid for the computer.  Hoping this is a software solution.

Hello mkwedel,

Doesn't sound like a software issue. If you would like final clarification, you can use the HP UEFI Diagnostics:

  1. Repeatedly press Esc upon startup
  2. Select F2 (System Diagnostics)
  3. Select the desired language
  4. Navigate to component tests
  5. Select Keyboard test

If it fails, it means that this isn't just an issue with Windows, but the keyboard itself.

We can provide you with an accurate price if you provide us with a specific model/product number. (Please do not post serial numbers on the HP Support Forum)

Information on how to find a laptop's model/product number is detailed in this HP document.

Regards,

Eddy
