I’ve been facing persistent hanging and lag issues on my HP laptop, mainly related to GPU/system performance. The system has sufficient free storage and RAM available, so resource shortage isn’t the issue. Interestingly, the laptop works smoothly on battery power, but the hanging problem appears when plugged in. I’ve already tried multiple fixes: clean driver removal using DDU in safe mode, reinstalling AMD Radeon graphics drivers, updating SSD firmware, and checking for chipset driver updates. I also looked into possible software conflicts like OneDrive sync issues and verified charging indicator behavior. Despite all this—including clean installs and proper troubleshooting—the random hangs still persist, which makes me suspect a deeper driver conflict, power management issue, or even a hardware-related fault. Looking for a solid fix or guidance.

Hi @royalbanna,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must be to deal with those persistent hangs, especially after you’ve already tried so many thorough troubleshooting steps. Thank you for sharing the details of what you’ve done so far.

Since the issue only appears when the laptop is plugged in, it does point toward a possible power management or hardware conflict rather than a simple driver problem.

Could you please provide:

The exact HP laptop model (for example, HP Pavilion 15, HP Omen, etc.).

Whether you notice any unusual fan noise, overheating, or changes in performance when switching between battery and AC power.

In the meantime, here are a few additional steps you can try :

Check power plan settings: Go to Control Panel → Power Options and ensure the “Plugged in” profile isn’t set to aggressive performance or unusual GPU scaling. Try setting both battery and plugged-in modes to “Balanced.”

Disable fast startup: Sometimes Windows fast startup causes odd hardware conflicts. You can turn it off in Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.

Test with another charger: If possible, try a different HP-certified adapter to rule out power delivery issues.

BIOS update: Check HP Support website https://support.hp.com/  for the latest BIOS update for your model, as these often include fixes for power and GPU stability.

Run HP hardware diagnostics: HP laptops have built-in diagnostics accessible by pressing F2 at startup. Running a full system test may reveal hidden hardware faults.

I hope this helps.
