Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 (76T53AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

This all started when I had my laptop connected to my monitor via HDMI and changed the display setting to "Show only  2". I then remember opening my laptop and the internal display was flashing every 30 seconds, and these are the symptoms:

-laptop screen is flashing (going black and coming back)

-the key lights start to flash aswell while the screen is flashing

-when the screen comes back it puts me to windows lock screen

can anyone help me with this ?

Hi @hirtoku, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your laptop's display settings might be conflicting with the internal display, possibly due to a driver issue or a bug in Windows 11’s handling of external monitors. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

Revert Display Settings

  1. Disconnect the HDMI cable from your laptop.
  2. Restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.
  3. If the issue continues, reset the display settings by pressing Win + P and selecting Duplicate or Extend.

Boot into Safe Mode

If the flashing persists:

  1. Press and hold Shift while clicking Restart from the Windows lock screen (this should take you to Advanced Startup).
  2. Navigate to Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart.
  3. Press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
  4. If the flashing stops in Safe Mode, update/reinstall your graphics drivers (see Step 3).

Update/Reinstall Graphics Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (Press Win + X, then select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Display Adapters.
  3. Right-click your NVIDIA GPU and select Update driver → Search automatically.
  4. Do the same for the Integrated Graphics (Intel/AMD Radeon).
  5. If the problem persists, uninstall both drivers, restart your PC, and reinstall them from the HP Support website or NVIDIA/AMD's official site.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Go to Settings → Windows Update.
  2. Check for and install any pending updates.
  3. Restart your laptop.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect all peripherals, including power cables.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Plug the power back in and turn it on.

Reset BIOS to Default

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Press F10 while booting to enter BIOS.
  3. Look for an option like "Load Setup Defaults" or "Reset to Default" and apply it.
  4. Save changes and restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
