HP laptop 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop screen is nearly black, but I can see a very faint outline of some dialog boxes. External monitor works fine. I have tried every driver update I can find, all the scans in HP assistant, etc. Nothing.

How do I revive my laptop display? Thanks.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand that your HP notebook display is not working correctly, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
  • Have you checked the display on an external monitor?

Let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Looks like a screen backlight issue. It can be caused by the screen itself, ribbon cable, or motherboard. You need to search for a repair / service centre around you for precise diagnostics.

Thanks Echo Lake. Unfortunately the problem does persist in BIOS so now it's time to figure out a hardware solution. Thanks.
