Hi @wilmerpc,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop not powering off!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Performing a Hard Reset

  1. Make sure the computer is not plugged into any devices, chargers, or docks.
  2. Press and hold the power button until the computer turns off completely, typically for about 10 seconds.
  3. Wait for a few seconds and then power on the laptop.

Update Windows and Drivers

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security.
  2. Select Check for updates and install all available updates.
  3. To update drivers, right-click on Start and select Device Manager.
  4. Expand each device category and check for driver updates.

Adjust Power Settings

  1. Type Control Panel in the search box and select it.
  2. Navigate to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  3. Click on Change plan settings for your selected power plan.
  4. Adjust the settings for Turn off the display and Put the computer to sleep to conform to your preferences.

Check Power Options

Ensure that the power options are correctly set to turn off the screen after a certain period of inactivity:

  1. In Control Panel, go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  2. Select Change plan settings for the current power plan.
  3. Click on Change advanced power settings.
  4. Expand the Display settings and configure Turn off display after time.

Software and Firmware Updates

  1. Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number to find updates for the BIOS and other firmware.
  2. Download and install the necessary updates.

I hope this helps.
