HP Pavilion - 15-cs3075wm
Microsoft Windows 11

My mouse is wireless USB which I have used for years.  Suddenly the touchpad started working also.  I can't disable the touchpad.  Every time I uninstall it, the system installs it again.  It's very annoying trying not to touch it while typing!

Hi @wonky48,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue of your touchpad re-enabling itself on your HP Pavilion 15 while using a wireless USB mouse, you can try the following steps.

Disable Touchpad via Device Settings

Open Settings:

  • Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  • Navigate to Devices > Touchpad.

Disable the Touchpad:

  • In the Touchpad settings, look for an option to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connected. This option might be labeled as "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected." Ensure this is toggled off.

Disable Touchpad via Device Manager

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager from the menu.

Locate Touchpad:

  • Find the touchpad under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices. It might be listed as Synaptics, ELAN, or something similar.

Disable Device:

  • Right-click the touchpad device and select Disable device. Confirm any prompts that appear.

Disable Touchpad via BIOS/UEFI Settings

Sometimes, touchpad settings can be configured directly in the BIOS/UEFI firmware.

Enter BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your computer and press Esc, F2, F10, Delete, or another key (depending on your model) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.

Navigate to Touchpad Settings:

  • Look for touchpad settings under an input or advanced tab. The exact location varies by manufacturer.

Disable Touchpad:

  • If there is an option to disable the touchpad, set it accordingly and save your changes.

Update or Roll Back Drivers

Driver issues can sometimes cause unexpected behavior.

Update Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad and select Update driver. Choose the option to search automatically for updated driver software.

Roll Back Driver:

  • If the problem started after a recent update, you might want to roll back the driver. In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click Roll Back Driver.

Physical Touchpad Disable Key

Many laptops have a function key to disable the touchpad. Look for a key with a touchpad icon, often one of the function keys (F1, F2, etc.) combined with the Fn key.

By following these steps, you should be able to manage your touchpad settings more effectively and prevent it from interfering with your typing while using a wireless USB mouse.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
