My mouse touchpad is not working. I had installed latest bios firmware update. Mouse touchpad driver installed form HP website. Please help me.

Step-by-Step: Fix Touchpad Not Working After BIOS or Driver Update

1. Enable Touchpad via Function Key

  • On many HP laptops, the touchpad can be toggled using Fn + F6, Fn + F5, or a dedicated touchpad icon key.
  • Tap the key once and test the touchpad.

A BIOS update can reset this setting, disabling the touchpad unintentionally.

 

2. Check Touchpad Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure the Touchpad toggle is turned On.
  • Scroll down and confirm gestures and sensitivity are set to default.

If the toggle is missing, Windows may not be detecting the touchpad hardware.

 

3. Verify in Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X > select Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Look for entries like:
    • HID-compliant touch pad
    • Synaptics/ELAN/Precision Touchpad
  • If found:
    • Right-click > Enable device (if disabled)
    • Or right-click > Uninstall device, then restart your PC

Windows will reinstall the driver automatically after reboot.

 

4. Install HP System Interface Foundation

  • Visit your laptop’s support page on HP’s site.
  • Under Software-Solutions, download and install HP System Interface Foundation.

This enables ACPI-based input control and may restore touchpad detection after BIOS updates.

 

5. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests > Input Devices > Touchpad Test.

This checks if the touchpad is functioning at the hardware level.

 

6. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  • Ensure Touchpad is set to Enabled.
  • Press F10 to save and exit.

BIOS updates can sometimes reset this to Disabled.
