Hi HP Support Team,
My name is .., and I am using an HP Chromebook.
Product ID: 2AZ326PA#ACJ
I am facing an issue with the Chromebook screen. The screen is automatically functioning/touching or responding on its own, even when I am not operating it. Because of this issue, I am unable to use the Chromebook properly.
There is no crash or error message, but the screen is behaving unexpectedly and automatically.
Could you please help me identify the cause of this issue and provide a suitable solution? Please also let me know if any troubleshooting steps, software updates, or hardware checks are required.
Thank you for your support.
Regards,

Hi @Abhi097,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that the touchscreen on your HP Chromebook (Product ID: 2AZ326PA#ACJ) is responding or registering touches by itself even when you are not touching the screen. I can understand how difficult this makes the Chromebook to use.
This behavior is commonly described as unintended or inaccurate touch input. Since there is no error message, we first need to determine whether the behavior is temporary or whether the touchscreen hardware needs attention.
1. Perform a hardware reset
A hardware reset clears information stored in the computer memory and re-establishes the connections between the hardware and system software. It does not remove your local files or settings. HP documents the following reset procedure for Chromebooks.
- Turn off the Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Refresh key.
- While holding Refresh, press the Power button.
- When the Chromebook starts, release the Refresh key.
After it starts, check whether the touchscreen is still operating by itself.
2. Check for ChromeOS updates
Please make sure the Chromebook is running the latest ChromeOS version available for the device. After installing any available update, restart the Chromebook and test the touchscreen again.
3. Check the touchscreen physically
Carefully inspect the display for any cracks, physical damage, or abnormal separation around the display. HP recommends checking Chromebooks for display and other physical damage when diagnosing hardware-related problems.
If you notice physical damage, please avoid attempting to open or repair the display yourself.
4. If the issue continues
If the touchscreen continues registering touches by itself after the hardware reset and ChromeOS is current, I would recommend having the Chromebook checked by HP Support, particularly if the behavior also occurs immediately after startup and is not limited to one application.
You can use the HP Support website to check the available service options for your Chromebook.
I hope this helps. Please let us know whether the unwanted touchscreen activity continues after performing the hardware reset, and we can guide you further based on the result.
Take care and have an amazing day!
I'm an HP Employee.
